Tournament Rules and Regulations

Rules: The Fall Fling Volleyball Tournament 2008will observe NAGVA rules and regulations.

Captain's Meeting: There will be a captain’s meeting held at 7:30 am at the gym to review facility rules and regulations and to give captain’s any updates. Make sure that your team has a representative present if your Captain is unable to attend.

Registration: Each player must sign in on the morning of the tournament before they can play. They must present a photo ID and have signed the waiver.

Teams: According to the new NAGVA rules, teams are no longer allowed to have a higher level player than the division they are playing in (ie all players in the B division must be B; all players in BB must be BB or lower; all players in A must be A or lower). For this tournament, each team is allowed to register only one non rated player. All other players must have their NAGVA ID number and rating. On the day of the tournament, the non-related player may be evaluated by the tournament committee. If the non rated player is deemed to be a higher level player, then that player will not be allowed to participate. The team will not be allowed to play in that division if they have a player of a higher division level. It is strongly recommended that if your team is bringing a high level non rated player, your team should have at least seven players in the case where one of the players is not allowed to participate.

Pool Play Assignment: All teams have been assigned for pool play. The top two teams from each pool will then be eligible for the single elimination round. The first match begins at 8:00 am at the Foothill gym. All matches are 45 minute, two 21-point rally scoring games to 25 with a 27 point cap. The score will start at 4-4 for each match. Ties will be allowed if time expires in a match. If time expires, the rally is played out and a dead-ball signals the end of the match. No timeouts allowed after the two minute warning has been announced.

Elimination Round Assignment: The two top teams from each division will advance to the elimination round. Teams eligible to play in the elimination round will be determined by (1) overall win/loss record, (2) overall point differential (3) head-to-head win/loss record, (4) head-to-head point differential, (5) if still tied, a coin flip. Point differential is determined by total points won minus total points lost divided by total points.

Referees: All matches will be officiated by other teams within the pool. If a team cannot provide someone qualified to referee, they must pay the cost of obtaining one. The cost has been adjudicated by SBVBC as $20.00 per match. It is the team’s responsibility to follow the refereeing schedule and adhere to it. Failure to fulfill a refereeing assignment is counted as an additional loss on their record in pool play or forfeiture of a match in tournament play.

Team jerseys: Players' jerseys must be marked clearly with numbers not less than four inches in height on the front and eight inches in height on the back. Numbers shall be located in such a position that they are clearly visible and shall be a color contrasting to that of the jersey. If a libero is used, their jersey must be a clearly contrasting color which is easily distinguishable from the rest of the team's. The rest of the team's jerseys must be uniform in color.

Number of Players: Under no circumstances may a team play with less than six players. If an injury occurs, an emergency substitution can be done with another player of equal or lower rating as the player being replaced. This player cannot be playing on a team that is still in the elimination round.

Winner’s Bracket: All matches will be the best 2 of 3 games. Games 1 and 2 are 25-point rally scoring, starting at 0 with no cap. Game 3 is 0 to 15 with no point cap (switching sides of the court when one team reaches 8 points).
